Footrests

Updated

A footrest under the desk solves the leg-dangle problem for shorter users on tall desks (or for shorter chairs that don't lower enough). Aosom UK, Archiproducts UK and Cherry Lane Garden Centres between them cover £14-£3,756 across the range. Three main formats: rocking footrests (curved bottom, shifts weight by tilting the rest); flat fixed footrests (constant angle, simpler); and ergonomic adjustable footrests (height and angle adjustable, premium pick). Standard size: 40x35cm to 50x40cm covers most desk-and-chair setups. Material: hard plastic (the office standard); padded fabric and leather (premium feel); solid wood (statement piece). Look for non-slip surfaces on the foot side; without them, the foot slides off as the user shifts weight. Proper ergonomic footrest height: feet flat with knees at 90 degrees, which means a footrest 5-15cm above the floor depending on chair-and-desk geometry. Adjustable footrests cover the variation; fixed footrests work best when chair height is steady.
