Kids beds is the umbrella for the room-by-room progression most UK families work through: cot to toddler (around 18 months to 4 years), then on to single, then optionally up to mid-sleeper, high-sleeper or cabin if the room has the ceiling height to spare.

A few things change with age. Under-3s need rounded edges, soft-close drawers and a height the child can climb in and out of safely (usually under 30cm to the top of the mattress). 4-8s usually do best on a low single with a guard rail on the side, switching to a regular single around eight. Above eight, choice opens up: mid-sleepers free up under-bed space for a desk, high-sleepers fit a futon or wardrobe combo underneath, and cabin beds combine both with built-in storage. Most of the range sits between £150 and £500.
