Super king mattresses: what to look for
A super king is the right size when the bedroom can take 180cm of width and at least one situation applies: one or both sleepers are over 6ft tall and want shoulder room to side-sleep, the bed is shared regularly with children or pets, or one partner is a particularly restless sleeper. Outside those three, a king-size at 150cm wide fits most British couples better, at a lower price and with easier bedding to source.
Construction matters more on super king than smaller sizes because the larger surface develops sag patterns rather than a single dip. Pocket spring counts of 1,500-plus are the comfortable spec at this size; below 1,500 and the springs are spaced widely enough that motion-transfer between sleepers becomes noticeable. Reinforced edges (side-stitched) stop the mattress collapsing where you sit to put socks on.
Firmness selection follows the same UK 1-to-10 scale as smaller sizes. Couples within 15kg of each other usually agree on medium or medium-firm (5 to 7).
