Fence Panels
Updated
Fence panels are sold by length (the panel width) and height. Standard panel widths are 6 feet (1828mm); standard heights are 3, 4, 5 and 6 feet (915, 1219, 1524 and 1830mm). The 6x6 close-board panel is the British garden boundary standard. Aosom UK, Buy Sheds Direct and Cherry Lane Garden Centres between them cover £7-£3,116 across panel types. Panel construction varies: close-board (vertical pales over horizontal rails) is the long-life choice; lap panels (overlapping horizontal boards) are cheaper and break in storms; trellis-topped panels combine fence and growing surface. Pressure-treated softwood is the standard 15-year fence; untreated softwood rots at the base within 3-5 years; cedar, oak and other hardwoods last 20-25 years but cost 3-4x more. Most installs use 75-100mm fence posts with concrete bases; check fence-post heights and post-to-post spacing before ordering panels.
