Shoe Cabinets

Updated

A shoe cabinet hides the shoes behind doors or flip-front compartments, the tidier alternative to an open shoe rack. The format suits hallways where the shoes face into the living space and visual order matters. Aosom UK, Cheap Furniture Warehouse and Cherry Lane Garden Centres between them cover £13-£600 across the range. Two main mechanisms: flip-front cabinets (each compartment tilts open from the top, holds 2-3 pairs per compartment); and traditional door cabinets (hinged or sliding doors with internal shelves). Flip-front is the space-efficient pick at £40-£200; traditional door cabinets at £80-£400. Capacity in slim units (28-35cm depth) tops out at 12-18 pairs; deeper 40-50cm cabinets hold 24-36 pairs. Look for ventilation slots in the doors, sealed cabinets trap shoe odours indefinitely. Top surface: cabinets with a shelf-style top double as a console for keys and post; flat-top cabinets work as bench seats.
