Paddling Pools
Updated
A paddling pool is the children's summer pool: typically 100-200cm diameter, 25-60cm depth, suitable for toddlers and younger primary-school-age children rather than serious swimming. Cheap Furniture Warehouse, Cheaper-Online.co.uk and Cherry Lane Garden Centres between them cover £6-£258 across the range. Sizes by age: 90-120cm rounds (suits toddlers, 25-30cm depth); 150-180cm rounds (suits 4-8 year olds, 40-50cm depth); 200-240cm and rectangular pools (large families, 50-60cm depth). Inflation: pump-inflatable (the standard, 5-10 minute inflation); self-inflating ring-pools (faster, smaller); rigid-frame pools (sturdier but harder to deflate). Material: 3-layer reinforced PVC is the household standard; cheaper single-layer pools puncture easily. Most paddling pools last 2-3 summers of regular use before pinhole leaks accumulate. Look for slip-resistant interior bases and wide flat rims for safer climb-in. Sun-canopy tops on younger-age pools help with UV exposure.
