Light Bulbs
Updated
Light bulbs are the household replacement category: LED has effectively replaced everything else for new installations and for most replacements. Aosom UK, Archiproducts UK and Buy Sheds Direct between them cover £1-£500 across the range. The two specs that matter most are the fitting (the cap that screws or pushes into the holder) and the colour temperature. Common UK fittings: B22 (bayonet, the household standard), E14 (small Edison screw, fits chandeliers and pendant lights), E27 (large Edison screw, fits floor lamps and bigger fittings), GU10 (twist-and-lock, fits spotlights and recessed downlights). Colour temperature: 2700K is warm white (the household standard, flattering); 4000K is cool white (working areas, kitchens); 6500K is daylight (offices, makeup, garages). Wattage: LED bulbs use 8-12W to deliver the equivalent of an old 60W incandescent. Look for dimmable LED if the fitting has a dimmer switch; non-dimmable LED on a dimmer flickers and fails fast.
