The spring time is the best time to observe this, as the surge in new growth brings out this fiery foliage. These colours transform over to pinks then creamy whites and finally green. Also, in the spring time, small, bell-shaped flowers form in clusters on racemes which gently droop due to the weight of the flowers and are found throughout the plant. These flowers are also mildly scented. As it is a more acidic-loving plant, it is great to companion plant with azaleas and rhododendrons. They prefer sheltered areas with full sun to partial shade. Although they are hardy, it is best to provide these plants with shelter, especially from winter winds. Tending towards a rounded and compact habit, this shrub is a stunner in the spring time.
