Avril Thomson Smith is a self-taught artist born and raised on the Shetland Islands in Scotland. Avril works from her home studio in Lerwick, where she creates captivating paintings of the Shetland landscape. Childhood playgrounds have been a constant source of inspiration to Avril, who has very fond memories of playing at her Grannies croft on the south mainland of Shetland. Climbing hills, casting peats, building haystacks, and digging up tatties have cemented an appreciation for the old Shetland way of life and instilled a love and appreciation of the remarkable landscape.
