Once the dust has settled, wipe the area with white spirit. Any holes or cracks can be filled in with wood filler. To prepare previously painted wood: sand flakes away to bare wood. This is easiest to do with an electric sander. Once the dust has settled, wipe it away with white spirit and a damp cloth. Application: Give your paint a thorough stir to mix the colour pigments. Apply the paint in the direction of the woodgrain with a synthetic brush. Leave your first coat to dry for four hours. Apply the second coat. If you're painting bare wood, you might still be able to see the grain after two coats. If that's the case, wait four hours before applying a third coat. Your last coat will be weatherproof in one hours. When you're done: Clean brushes out with warm, soapy water. If you need to perform any maintenance, lightly sand it until it's smooth and then add a coat or two until you've repaired it.
