Strelitzia, or 'Bird of Paradise', produces spectacular, long-lasting and unique vivid orange and blue flowers. These stunning feature plants boast tall blooms that rise on vertical stems up above bluish green leaves, up to 1.8m tall. In addition to the much sought-after blooms, Strelitzia grow large, paddle-like leaves, combing for an exotic, year-round architectural display even when the plants are not in flower. A striking addition to the conservatory and suitable as a patio plant with a difference. Care Advice: Strelizia needs lots of bright light with some direct sun, regular watering and warmth. Feed early in spring before new growth begins and then fertilize every week or so during the growing season. Plants are not hardy so will need bringing into the house or conservatory over winter. Replacing the top 5cm of potting soil once a year and then re-pot about every second year or so, taking care not to damage the roots. Water regular during spring and summer to maintain constant moisture, without saturating the potting media - gradually reducing the amount during the autumn. From the end of November allow the soil to dry between watering. No pruning is needed, although old untidy leaves can be removed in the spring.
