Stunning bicolour flowers appear on sturdy stems above the compact foliage. Well suited to the British climate and easy to grow in almost any soil. Great for sowing in drifts across a border or for filling in spare gaps. Choose a position in full sun on fertile, well-drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, just below the soil surface. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 7 - 14 days. When Poppy seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.Feed and water poppy plants frequently throughout the summer. When growing oriental poppies, deadhead faded poppy flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut back old foliage to ground level in autumn.
