The power cord powers the base so you're not restricted by the length of the cord when filling and pouring the kettle, and the base has a built-in cord tidy. The removable filter prevents limescale from getting into the cup when pouring, and slides out if cleaning is required. The on/off power switch has an LED indicator light which illuminates when the kettle is boiling.
